SURFACES IN THE SUMMER
Surfaces hit the road for its ENDLESS SUMMER tour around the United States at the start of May.
Colin Padalecki, Surfaces band member, and Texas A&M University student said, Surfaces made most of its first album “Surf” at a little blue house in College Station. This is Surfaces first tour and with its new album, “Where the Light is” being released at the start of January. Surfaces could potentially be making more than just trips around the United States by the end of its ENDLESS SUMMER tour.
“I think that’s our next big thing is the summer tour,” Padalecki said. “We have only had two shows, one was at a record shop in College Station and then A&M Athletics contacted us about playing before the A&M and LSU game.”
Colin was on the Texas A&M University Track and Field team for three years but wanted to pursue his music. Alexa Padalecki, Colin’s cousin, started singing on beats that he was producing in high school.
“I produced some stuff for Alexa to sing over when I was in high school, then I went to college, started posting it online and people started to reach out to me about what I was making with Alexa,” said Padalecki.
Forrest Frank contacted the two about creating music in 2017 and from there they formed the group, “Surfaces”.
“Me and Forrest met purely off of music,” said Padalecki.
Colin going to school and Forrest working in Seattle, at the time they had collaborated on music but never recorded together. Forrest called Colin one day asking, “Have you ever been to Seattle?” Colin and Alexa booked a flight to go and record for a weekend. The first song Surfaces created titled, “Be Alright” was recorded on Forrest Franks’ houseboat while they were in Seattle. The group went on to release its first album “Surf” in December of 2017.
“The first song we recorded was “Be Alright” and it was such a good day out, we were showing all of Forrest’s neighbors,” Padalecki said.
Surfaces didn't anticipate the kind of success it has been having. Padalecki said before the release of its album, “Where the Light Is” Surfaces first album, “Surf” started taking off on all music platforms. Surfaces music has caught the attention of the biggest names in the music industry.
“Our album “Surf”, we didn’t know what we were doing we just were making music,” said Surfaces. “Once major record labels began to call us we thought that it was a mistake,”
According to Spotify Music, Surfaces has 590,000 monthly listeners and over 20 million streams. The band has taken calls from major record labels, including Atlantic, Columbia, and Warner Brothers.
“The past seven to eight months we have skyrocketed,” Padalecki said. “It is almost scary to the point where we have every major record label A-Z calling us.”
Surfaces are unsigned as of now, but its members have been working with people to get its tour together, Padalecki said. The groups' recent growth has given them access to more than they ever could’ve imagined when starting the band. Surfaces are using this tour as a way to connect with all its fans around the country.
“We are looking at managers and booking agents,” Padalecki said. “We want to see these kids just as bad as they want to see us.”
Surfaces are on the verge of breaking through to becoming one of the biggest names in music. Colin said they have been called every genre but don’t claim to be the first to make this type of happy feel- good music. With their recent found success, comes a little of everything and Colin said they are just excited for whatever is next.
“We are taking everything day by day and being very humble about where we are and where we are going,” Padalecki said. “It is kind of cool because we released it from our bedroom and it just grew into this big thing.”
